Kanwal - Wyongah is bounded by the locality of Lake Haven in the north, Lake Haven Drive, Wallarah Road, Minnamurra Road, Donald Avenue and Tuggerah Lake in the east, Saturday Street, Cadonia Road and the locality of Tuggerawong in the south and the locality of Wadalba and the Pacific Highway in the west.

Name origin

Kanwal is thought to be named from an Aboriginal word meaning "snakes indeed".

Settlement history

Development of the area dates primarily from the 1970s. The population increased during the 1990s with the development of the Kanwal new release area, was relatively stable between 2001 and 2006, and then increased slightly between 2006 and 2011.

Kanwal - Wyongah is a residential area, with rural areas in the south-west.
