Location and boundaries

Gorokan is bounded by the locality of Lake Haven, Westbrook Parade and Goobarabah Avenue in the north, Budgewoi Lake in the east, Tuggerah Lake in the south and Marks Road, Donald Avenue, Minnamurra Road, Wallarah Road and Lake Haven Drive in the west.

Name origin

Gorokan is named from an Aboriginal word meaning "the morning dawn".

Settlement history

Development of the area dates primarily from the post-war years. Rapid growth took place during the 1970s and 1980s. The population was relatively stable between 1991 and 2006, and then increased slightly between 2006 and 2011.
