Dominant groups

Analysis of the car ownership of the households with recent arrivals in Wollongong City Council in 2021 compared to Regional NSW shows that 87.6% of recent arrivals were in households who owned at least one car and 10.6% were not, compared with 92.9% and 5.3% respectively in Regional NSW.

Of those that owned at least one vehicle, there was a larger proportion who owned just one car, a smaller proportion who owned two cars, and a smaller proportion who owned three cars or more.

Overall, 40.8% of recent arrivals were in households who owned one car, 30.9% owned two cars, and 15.9% owned three cars or more, compared with 36.8%, 37.5% and 18.5% respectively for Regional NSW.
