Ancestry
The three largest ancestries in Figtree in 2016 were English, Australian and Irish.
Ancestry defines the cultural association and ethnic background of an individual going back three generations. Ancestry is a good measure of the total size of cultural groups in Figtree regardless of where they were born or what language they speak.

Dominant groups
Analysis of the ancestry responses of the population in Figtree in 2016 shows that the top five ancestries nominated were:
- English (3,843 people or 34.1%)
- Australian (3,827 people or 34.0%)
- Irish (1,113 people or 9.9%)
- Scottish (1,040 people or 9.2%)
- Italian (789 people or 7.0%)
In combination these five ancestries account for 10,612 responses in total, or 94.30% of all responses.
The major differences between the ancestries of the population in Figtree and New South Wales were:
- A larger percentage of people with Macedonian ancestry (5.0% compared to 0.5%)
- A larger percentage of people with Australian ancestry (34.0% compared to 30.2%)
