Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Epping in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (908 people or 14.1%)
  • Retail Trade (725 people or 11.2%)
  • Construction (699 people or 10.8%)

In combination, these three industries employed 2,332 people in total or 36.2% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, the City of Whittlesea employed 15.3% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 10.3% in Retail Trade; and 11.4% in Construction.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Epping and the City of Whittlesea were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in transport, postal and warehousing (7.7% compared to 6.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (4.2% compared to 5.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (14.1% compared to 15.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in education and training (6.6% compared to 7.7%)

The number of employed people in Epping decreased by 49 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Epping were for those employed in:

  • Manufacturing (-158 persons)
  • Construction (+91 persons)
  • Retail Trade (-88 persons)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+75 persons)
