Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Whitsunday Regional Council area in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Accommodation and Food Services (3,095 people or 17.2%)
  • Construction (1,592 people or 8.9%)
  • Retail Trade (1,529 people or 8.5%)

In combination, these three industries employed 6,216 people in total or 34.6% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Regional QLD employed 8.0% in Accommodation and Food Services; 9.6% in Construction; and 9.6% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Whitsunday Regional Council area and Regional QLD were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in accommodation and food services (17.2% compared to 8.0%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in mining (7.5% compared to 3.5%)
