Dominant groups

Analysis of the year of arrival for the overseas born Non-English speakers speaking population of the City of Whitehorse in 2021 compared to the total population in the City of Whitehorse shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who arrived before 2010, and a larger proportion of recent overseas arrivals (those who arrived between 2016 and 2021).

Overall, 54.0% of the overseas born Non-English speakers speaking population arrived before 2010, and 26.3% arrived during or after 2016, compared with 59.7% and 22.5% respectively for the total population in the City of Whitehorse.

The major differences between the year of arrival data of the Non-English speakers speaking population of the City of Whitehorse and the total population in the City of Whitehorse were:

  • A larger percentage of arrivals between 2016 to Aug 2021 (26.3% compared to 22.5%)
  • A larger percentage of arrivals between 2011 to 2015 (17.9% compared to 15.8%)
