The three largest ancestries in Blackburn in 2021 were English, Australian and Chinese.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the ancestry responses of the population in Blackburn in 2021 shows that the top five ancestries nominated were:

  • English (4,536 people or 31.4%)
  • Australian (3,930 people or 27.2%)
  • Chinese (2,566 people or 17.7%)
  • Irish (1,703 people or 11.8%)
  • Scottish (1,443 people or 10.0%)

In combination these five ancestries account for 14,178 responses in total, or 98.02% of all responses.

The major differences between the ancestries of the population in Blackburn and the City of Whitehorse were:

  • A larger percentage of people with English ancestry (31.4% compared to 24.2%)
