Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the 1840s, with land used mainly for market gardens and vineyards. Growth took place in the early 1900s and during the interwar period. Significant development occurred during the post-war years. The population was relatively stable between 1991 and 2006, and then increased slightly between 2006 and 2011 as new dwellings were added to the area.

Lockleys Ward is an established residential area, with industrial areas in the north.
