Hilton Ward is bounded by Henley Beach Road in the north, Bagot Avenue, Tarragon Street, South Road, Davenport Terrace, Milner Road, Kingston Avenue and Brooker Terrace in the east, Richmond Road in the south and the eastern boundary of the Adelaide Airport, Clifford Street, Sir Donald Bradman Drive and Marion Road in the west.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the 1840s, with land used mainly for farming. Growth took place in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The most significant development occurred during the post-war years. The population declined slightly during the 1990s, was stable between 2001 and 2006, and then increased between 2006 and 2011 as new dwellings were added to the area.

Land use

Hilton Ward is an established residential area with some commercial areas along Sir Donald Bradman Drive and Richmond Road.

Major features of the area include the Council offices, Cowandilla Reserve, Falcon Avenue Reserve, Frank Norton Reserve, Lyons Street Reserve, West Torrens Memorial Gardens and two schools.

Hilton Ward encompasses the suburbs of Cowandilla, Hilton and West Richmond, and parts of the suburbs of Brooklyn Park, Mile End, Richmond and Torrensville.
