Name origin

North Plympton is named for the area north of Plympton, which is thought to be named after a town in Devonshire, England. Netley is named after Netley Abbey in Hampshire, England.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from mid 1800s. Growth took place from the late 1800s into the early 1900s. The most significant development occurred during the post-war years. The population declined slightly during the 1990s, and then increased slightly between 2001 and 2011 as new dwellings were added to the area.

North Plympton - Netley is an established residential area with industrial areas in the north.
