Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by the population of Warringah Council area in 2011 compared to Greater Sydney shows that there was a larger proportion of people who spoke English only, and a smaller proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 80.1% of the population spoke English only, and 16.1% spoke a non-English language, compared with 62.2% and 32.4% respectively for Greater Sydney.

The dominant language spoken at home, other than English, in Warringah Council area was Italian, with 2.0% of the population, or 2,753 people speaking this language at home.

The major differences between the languages spoken at home for the population of Warringah Council area and Greater Sydney in 2011 were:
