Location and boundaries
The Eastern Region Alliance area is located to the east of the Adelaide CBD. The Eastern Region Alliance area is bounded by the Cities of Salisbury and Playford in the north, the Adelaide Hills Council area in the east, the Cities of Mitcham, Marion and West Torrens in the south, and the Cities of Adelaide, Charles Sturt and Port Adelaide Enfield in the west.
Traditional Owners
The original inhabitants of the Eastern Region Alliance area were the Kaurna Aboriginal people.

Settlement history
European settlement dates from the 1830s, with land used mainly for farming, orcharding and market gardening. Initially development was in the areas closest to Adelaide. Land remained largely rural until growth took place in the late 1800s and early 1900s, when many small villages were established. Some growth occurred during the interwar period. The most significant development took place from the post-war years, particularly during the 1950s and 1960s. Population growth began to slow from the 1970s. The population increased slightly from the early 1990s, rising from about 258,000 in 1991 to about 272,000 in 2001, then rose marginally to over 280,000 in 2011.
Land use
The Eastern Region Alliance area encompasses a total land area of about 190 square kilometres. The Eastern Region Alliance area is predominantly residential, with some industrial and commercial areas, parklands and rural areas. With a population of over 280,000 in 2011, the Eastern Region Alliance area is home to about a quarter of the total population in the Adelaide Statistical Division. The City of Tea Tree Gully has the largest population in the region, while the Town of Walkerville has the smallest.
Transport
The Eastern Region Alliance area is served by the South Eastern Freeway, the Anzac Highway, Main North Road, the Belair, Gawler and Noarlunga railway lines, the Northeast Busway (O-Bahn) and the Glenelg-Adelaide tramway.
