Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Tweed Shire in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (7,075 people or 17.4%)
  • Construction (4,797 people or 11.8%)
  • Retail Trade (4,197 people or 10.3%)

In combination, these three industries employed 16,069 people in total or 39.5% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Regional NSW employed 16.3% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.4% in Construction; and 9.4% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Tweed Shire and Regional NSW were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in construction (11.8% compared to 9.4%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in accommodation and food services (9.5% compared to 7.5%)
