In 2021, the largest age group in Toowoomba was 10 to 14 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2011 was 70 to 74 year olds, increasing by 1,682 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the female five year age groups of Toowoomba in 2021 compared to Regional QLD shows that there was a higher proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) as well as a higher proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 18.6% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 20.5% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 17.5% and 19.6% respectively for Regional QLD.

The major differences between the female age structure of Toowoomba and Regional QLD were:

  • A larger percentage of females aged 85 and over (3.0% compared to 2.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of females aged 55 to 59 (6.0% compared to 6.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of females aged 45 to 49 (6.0% compared to 6.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of females aged 40 to 44 (5.6% compared to 6.2%)

Emerging groups

From 2011 to 2021, Toowoomba's female population increased by 11,743 people (15.1%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.42% per year over the period.

The largest changes in female age structure in this area between 2011 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 70 to 74 (+1,682 females)
  • 65 to 69 (+1,253 females)
  • 30 to 34 (+1,236 females)
  • 75 to 79 (+1,194 females)
