Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in The Hills Shire in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Professionals (15,076 males or 30.2%)
- Managers (11,807 males or 23.6%)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (7,533 males or 15.1%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 34,416 males in total or 68.9% of the employed male resident population.
In comparison, Greater Sydney employed 26.5% in Professionals; 17.5% in Managers; and 16.8% in Technicians and Trades Workers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of The Hills Shire and Greater Sydney were:
- A larger percentage of males employed as Managers (23.6% compared to 17.5%)
- A larger percentage of males employed as Professionals (30.2% compared to 26.5%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (5.0% compared to 9.2%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed as Labourers (5.8% compared to 8.6%)

The number of employed males in The Hills Shire increased by 7,791 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the occupations of male residents between 2016 and 2021 in The Hills Shire were for those employed as:

- Managers (+2,209 males)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (+534 males)
- Clerical and Administrative Workers (+519 males)
