Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in The Hills Shire in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (12,690 people or 13.2%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (11,146 people or 11.6%)
  • Education and Training (8,942 people or 9.3%)

In combination, these three industries employed 32,778 people in total or 34.0% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Greater Sydney employed 13.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 10.9% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; and 8.5% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of The Hills Shire and Greater Sydney were:
