Rural North is located in the northern section of The Hills Shire. Rural North is bounded by Hawkesbury City in the north and west, Hornsby Shire in the east, and Pangari Creek and O’Haras Creek in the south.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the early 1800s, with land used mainly for farming and timber-getting. Some growth took place in the late 1800s. The most significant development occurred in the post-war years. The population increased slightly from the early 1990s as new dwellings were added to the area.

Rural North is the predominantly rural area. Land is used mainly for farming, with some nurseries and orchards.

Major features of the area include Cattai National Park, Maroota Nature Reserve, the Hawkesbury River, Pacific Park Water Ski Gardens & Motorcycle Park, Ulinbawn Waterski Park, Riverside Oaks PGA International Golf Course, The Country Club Sydney, Wisemans Ferry Golf Club, Crescent Reach Reserve, Hawkins Lookout Reserve, Les Shore Recreation Reserve, Old Northern Road Reserve, Sackville Memorial Park, South Maroota Community Reserve, Wisemans Ferry Park, Lower Portland Ferry, Sackville Ferry, Webbs Creek Ferry, Wisemans Ferry, Glenorie Shopping Village, several accommodation places, Talai Estate Winery and several schools.
