Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Eastern Region Alliance area in 2016 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (22,385 people or 16.0%)
  • Education and Training (14,644 people or 10.5%)
  • Retail Trade (14,232 people or 10.2%)

In combination, these three industries employed 51,261 people in total or 36.7% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, the City of Tea Tree Gully employed 14.6% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.3% in Education and Training; and 11.4% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Eastern Region Alliance area and the City of Tea Tree Gully were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (8.7% compared to 5.3%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (16.0% compared to 14.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (6.1% compared to 8.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in construction (7.1% compared to 9.2%)

The number of employed people in Eastern Region Alliance area decreased by 1,203 between 2011 and 2016.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2011 and 2016 in Eastern Region Alliance area were for those employed in:

  • Manufacturing (-2,854 persons)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+1,429 persons)
  • Retail Trade (-1,082 persons)
  • Wholesale trade (-1,012 persons)
