The three largest ancestries in Eastern Region Alliance area in 2016 were English, Australian and Italian.

Ancestry defines the cultural association and ethnic background of an individual going back three generations. Ancestry is a good measure of the total size of cultural groups in Eastern Region Alliance area regardless of where they were born or what language they speak.

Analysis of the ancestry responses of the population in Eastern Region Alliance area in 2016 shows that the top five ancestries nominated were:

  • Australian (82,415 people or 28.1%)
  • Italian (33,628 people or 11.5%)
  • Irish (24,370 people or 8.3%)
