Location and boundaries
Steventon Ward is bounded by the City of Playford in the north, One Tree Hill Road, Hannaford Hump Road, the Adelaide Hills Council area, Range Road North and Range Road South in the east, Lower North East Road, Hancock Road and Grenfell Road in the south, and Golden Grove Road and the suburb of Greenwith in the west.

Settlement of the area dates from the late 1830s, with the township of Tea Tree Gully established in the 1840s. Land was used largely for agriculture, grazing, orcharding, viticulture and mining. Some growth took place in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Significant residential development did not occur until the 1950s, with more rapid growth during the 1960s and 1970s, mainly in the western areas. The population declined slightly between 1991 and 2006, a result of little change in dwelling stock and a decline in the average number of persons living in each dwelling. The population and dwelling stock increased slightly between 2006 and 2011.
Steventon Ward has established residential areas in the western and south-western sections, and semi-rural and rural areas in the eastern and northern sections.
Major features of the area include Tea Tree Gully Golf Club, Fairview Green Shopping Centre, Golden Grove Shopping Centre, Anstey Hill Recreation Park, Angove Conservation Park, Banksia Park Sport Area (including Bulkana Oval and Pertaringa Oval), Brightlands Reserve, Fairview Park, Goldenfields Reserve, Gunda Reserve, Harpers Field, Illyane Reserve, Marsha Reserve, Nagle Reserve, Taworri Reserve, Tilley Recreation Park, Pegasus Pony Club, Surrey Downs Community Centre, Little Para Reservoir and numerous schools.
Steventon Ward includes the suburbs of Banksia Park, Fairview Park, Surrey Downs, Tea Tree Gully, Vista and Yatala Vale, part of the suburb of Golden Grove, and the City of Tea Tree Gully parts of the suburbs of Gould Creek, Houghton and Upper Hermitage. Part of the suburb of Gould Creek is located in the City of Playford. Parts of the suburbs of Houghton and Upper Hermitage are located in the Adelaide Hills Council area.
