Location and boundaries

Pedare Ward is bounded by the Little Para River, the City of Playford and Little Para Reservoir in the north, the suburb of Golden Grove, Para Valley Road and Golden Grove Road in the east, The Grove Way, Surrey Farm Drive, The Golden Way, Helicon Drive, Elysium Drive, Forrest Court and the suburb of Wynn Vale in the south, and the City of Salisbury in the west.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the late 1830s, with Golden Grove being one of the earliest areas of settlement in the City of Tea Tree Gully. Land was used mainly for farming and quarrying. Population was minimal until the 1850s, with some growth in the late 1800s. The Little Para Reservoir was constructed in the 1970s. Significant residential development did not occur until the mid 1980s, following the acquisition of land by the South Australian Land Commission and development of housing by Delfin in the Golden Grove area. Rapid growth took place during the 1990s, with the population increasing more than five-fold between 1991 and 2001 as large numbers of new dwellings were added to the area, mainly in Golden Grove and Greenwith. Growth began to slow between 2001 and 2006 as fewer new dwellings were added. The population and dwelling stock were relatively stable between 2006 and 2011.

Pedare Ward is a residential and rural area, with rural areas in the north and west, and relatively new residential areas in the east and south.

Pedare Ward includes the suburb of Greenwith, the south-western part of the suburb of Golden Grove, and the City of Tea Tree Gully parts of the suburbs of Salisbury East and Salisbury Heights. Parts of the suburbs of Salisbury East and Salisbury Heights are located in the City of Salisbury.
