Greenwith - Salisbury Heights - Salisbury East is bounded by the Little Para River and the City of Playford in the north, the suburb of Golden Grove, Para Valley Road and Golden Grove Road in the east, Slate Creek, Cobbler Creek, and the suburb of Golden Grove in the south and the City of Salisbury in the west.

Name origin

Greenwith is named after an original property in the area, which was named after a mine in Cornwall, England. Salisbury East and Salisbury Heights are named after the town of Salisbury in Wiltshire, England.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from 1846. Some growth took place in the late 1800s. Significant development did not occur until the 1990s, following the acquisition of land by the South Australian Land Commission in the southern part of Greenwith for housing as part of the Golden Grove development. Rapid growth took place in Greenwith during the early 1990s. Population growth began to slow during the late 1990s, with the population increasing more gradually between 2001 and 2006 as fewer new dwellings were added to the area. The population was stable between 2006 and 2011, a result of few new dwellings being added to the area and a decline in the average number of persons living in each dwelling.
