Note that household income is connected to household size - the potential for a lone person household to have a high income is less than for a household containing 5 adults. Dominant groups
Analysis of the household/family types of low income households in the City of Sydney in 2021 compared to Greater Sydney shows that there was a lower proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a lower proportion in one-parent families. Overall, 3.8% of low income households were couple families with child(ren), and 7.7% one-parent families, compared with 15.5% and 14.2% respectively for Greater Sydney.
There were a higher proportion of lone person households and a lower proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of low income lone person households was 65.7% compared to 44.5% for Greater Sydney while the proportion in couples without children was 13.9% compared to 22.6% for Greater Sydney.

The number of low income households in City of Sydney decreased by 3,097 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in family/household types of low income households in the City of Sydney between 2016 and 2021 were:
