Analysis of the families with children in the City of Sydney in 2021 compared to Greater Sydney shows that there was a smaller proportion of couples with young children, as well as a smaller proportion of couples with older children.
Overall, 7.5% of total households with children were couple with young children, and 2.2% were couples with older children, compared with 18.6% and 11.2% respectively for Greater Sydney.
There were a smaller proportion of single parent households with young children and a smaller proportion of single parent households with older children. Overall, the proportion of single parent households with young children was 1.6% compared to 3.4% in Greater Sydney while the proportion of single parent households with older children was 2.4% compared to 5.9% in Greater Sydney.
Emerging groups
Between 2006 and 2021, the number of households with children increased by 6,155 households or 66.8%.
The largest changes in households with children in this area between 2006 and 2021 were:
- Couples with young children (+4,111 households)
- Single parents with older children (+737 households)
- Couples with older children (+584 households)
- Single parents with young children (+553 households)
