Dominant groups

Analysis of the need for assistance of people in the City of Sydney compared to Surry Hills shows that there was a lower proportion of people who reported needing assistance with core activities.

Overall, 2.7% of the population reported needing assistance with core activities, compared with 3.7% for Surry Hills.

The major differences in the age groups reporting a need for assistance in the City of Sydney and Surry Hills were:

  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 85 and over (46.4% compared to 56.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 75 to 79 (15.7% compared to 19.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 70 to 74 (10.1% compared to 14.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 80 to 84 (28.8% compared to 32.2%)

Emerging groups
