Dominant groups
Analysis of the household/family types of people aged 18 to 24 years in Sutherland Shire Council in 2021 compared to Greater Sydney, shows that there was a higher proportion of people aged 18 to 24 years in couple families with child(ren) as well as a similar proportion in one-parent families. Overall, 65.8% of people aged 18 to 24 years were in couple families with child(ren), and 16.7% were in one-parent families, compared with 52.8% and 16.8% respectively for Greater Sydney.
There was a lower proportion of people aged 18 to 24 years in lone person households and a lower proportion in couples without children. Overall, the proportion of people aged 18 to 24 years in lone person households was 2.7% compared to 3.8% in Greater Sydney while the proportion of couples without children was 7.6% compared to 10.2% in Greater Sydney.

The number of people aged 18 to 24 years in households in Sutherland Shire increased by 500 between 2016 and 2021.
