Location and boundaries
The suburb of Belfield was previously located in the Strathfield and City of Canterbury-Bankstown Local Government Areas (LGA). The area located in the Strathfield LGA was changed to Strathfield South from 1 July 2023 by approval of the NSW Geographical Names Board. This small area is bounded by Coxs Creek and the Cook River in the north, Punchbowl Road in the east and south, and Cosgrove Road in the west.
