Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in South Gippsland Shire in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (1,567 females or 23.8%)
  • Education and Training (802 females or 12.2%)
  • Retail Trade (709 females or 10.8%)

In combination, these three industries employed 3,078 females in total or 46.8% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Regional VIC employed 26.8% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 13.1% in Education and Training; and 11.5% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of South Gippsland Shire and Regional VIC were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (10.2% compared to 4.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (23.8% compared to 26.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in public administration and safety (3.8% compared to 6.3%)
