Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in South Gippsland Shire in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (1,370 males or 19.5%)
- Construction (1,243 males or 17.7%)
- Manufacturing (642 males or 9.1%)
In combination, these three industries employed 3,255 males in total or 46.4% of the total employed male resident population.
In comparison, Regional VIC employed 9.7% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; 17.2% in Construction; and 10.5% in Manufacturing.
The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of South Gippsland Shire and Regional VIC were:
- A larger percentage of males employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (19.5% compared to 9.7%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed in public administration and safety (4.0% compared to 6.3%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed in health care and social assistance (3.9% compared to 6.0%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed in retail trade (6.1% compared to 7.7%)

The number of employed males in South Gippsland Shire increased by 616 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2016 and 2021 in South Gippsland Shire were for those employed in:
- Construction (+227 males)
- Education and Training (+82 males)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+72 males)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+65 males)
