Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in South Gippsland Shire in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (1,370 males or 19.5%)
  • Construction (1,243 males or 17.7%)
  • Manufacturing (642 males or 9.1%)

In combination, these three industries employed 3,255 males in total or 46.4% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Regional VIC employed 9.7% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; 17.2% in Construction; and 10.5% in Manufacturing.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of South Gippsland Shire and Regional VIC were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (19.5% compared to 9.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in public administration and safety (4.0% compared to 6.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in health care and social assistance (3.9% compared to 6.0%)
