Dominant groups

Analysis of individual income levels in Rockhampton in 2021 compared to Rural South East shows that there was a similar proportion of people earning a high income (those earning $2,000 per week or more) and a lower proportion of low income people (those earning less than $500 per week).

Overall, 9.6% of the population earned a high income, and 32.2% earned a low income, compared with 9.3% and 35.1% respectively for Rural South East.

The major differences between Rockhampton's individual incomes and Rural South East's individual incomes were:

  • A larger percentage of persons who earned $800 - $999 (8.8% compared to 6.8%)
  • A larger percentage of persons who earned $400 - $499 (8.7% compared to 7.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons who earned Negative Income/ Nil income (7.5% compared to 9.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons who earned $300 - $399 (8.1% compared to 9.8%)
