Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by recent overseas arrivals in Rockhampton in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (336 persons or 31.0%)
  • Labourers (290 persons or 26.8%)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (180 persons or 16.6%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 806 people in total or 74.4% of the employed recent overseas arrivals.

In comparison, Regional QLD employed 19.3% in Professionals; 23.5% in Labourers; and 17.9% in Community and Personal Service Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the recent overseas arriving population of Rockhampton and Regional QLD were:

  • A larger percentage of people employed as Professionals (31.0% compared to 19.3%)
  • A larger percentage of people employed as Labourers (26.8% compared to 23.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of people employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (8.0% compared to 13.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of people employed as Managers (3.5% compared to 7.9%)
