Dominant groups

Analysis of the household/family types in the City of Darwin LGA in 2021 compared to the RDA Northern Territory shows that there was a similar proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a lower proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 26.9% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 9.4% were one-parent families, compared with 27.0% and 10.3% respectively for the RDA Northern Territory.

There were a higher proportion of lone person households and a higher proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 22.8% compared to 19.7% in the RDA Northern Territory while the proportion of couples without children was 23.3% compared to 20.2% in the RDA Northern Territory.
