Dominant groups

Analysis of the household/family types in the RDA Northern Territory in 2021 compared to the City of Darwin LGA shows that there was a similar proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a higher proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 27.0% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 10.3% were one-parent families, compared with 26.9% and 9.4% respectively for the City of Darwin LGA.

There were a lower proportion of lone person households and a lower proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 19.7% compared to 22.8% in the City of Darwin LGA while the proportion of couples without children was 20.2% compared to 23.3% in the City of Darwin LGA.

The number of households in RDA Northern Territory increased by 6,122 between 2016 and 2021.
