Sexes - Occupation of employment
In 2021, there were more females working as professionals in City of Port Phillip than any other occupation.
City of Port Phillip’s occupation statistics quantify the broad occupation group in which people work. The occupation classification is generally arranged in descending order by the level of qualification required to perform that occupation, starting with Managers and Professionals and finishing with Labourers.
Differences between females and males are quite apparent in occupation categories nationwide. Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in City of Port Phillip in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Professionals (12,379 people or 40.2%)
- Managers (5,734 people or 18.6%)
- Clerical and Administrative Workers (4,770 people or 15.5%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 22,883 people in total or 74.3% of the employed resident population.
In comparison, Greater Melbourne - Total females employed 26.8% in Professionals; 13.8% in Managers; and 12.9% in Clerical and Administrative Workers.
The major differences between the jobs held by females in City of Port Phillip and Greater Melbourne - Total females were:
- A larger percentage of females employed as Professionals (40.2% compared to 26.8%)
- A smaller percentage of females employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (3.7% compared to 12.1%)
- A smaller percentage of females employed as Labourers (2.1% compared to 7.8%)
