Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by children aged 0 to 4 years in City of Port Phillip in 2021 compared to the total population in City of Port Phillip shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who spoke English only, and a larger proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 69.1% of children aged 0 to 4 years spoke English only, and 25.5% of% spoke a non-English language, compared with 72.5% and 21.1% respectively for the total population in City of Port Phillip.

Other than English, the dominant language spoken at home by children aged 0 to 4 years in City of Port Phillip was Mandarin, with 2.3% of the population, or 96 people speaking this language at home.
