In 2016, 14% of people in Elizabeth, came from countries where English was not their first language.

Analysis of the country of birth of the population in Elizabeth in 2016 compared to the City of Playford shows that there was a larger proportion of people born overseas, as well as a larger proportion of people from a non-English speaking background.
Overall, 24.6% of the population was born overseas, and 13.6% were from a non-English speaking background, compared with 21.1% and 10.6% respectively for the City of Playford.
The major difference between the countries of birth of the population in Elizabeth and the City of Playford was:
- A larger percentage of people born in Afghanistan (2.5% compared to 0.8%)
Between 2011 and 2016, the number of people born overseas decreased by 28 or 10.2%, and the number of people from a non-English speaking background decreased by 7 or 4.9%.
There were no major differences in Elizabeth between 2011 and 2016.
