Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in City of Perth in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (1,460 males or 16.1%)
  • Mining (1,103 males or 12.2%)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (1,006 males or 11.1%)

In combination, these three industries employed 3,569 males in total or 39.5% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Greater Perth employed 8.6% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; 9.9% in Mining; and 5.6% in Accommodation and Food Services.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of the City of Perth and Greater Perth were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in professional, scientific and technical services (16.1% compared to 8.6%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in accommodation and food services (11.1% compared to 5.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in construction (7.0% compared to 14.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in manufacturing (3.3% compared to 7.4%)

The number of employed males in City of Perth increased by 2,028 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2016 and 2021 in the City of Perth were for those employed in:

  • Mining (+394 males)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+361 males)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+249 males)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (+149 males)
