Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Penrith in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (1,235 people or 15.1%)
  • Retail Trade (881 people or 10.7%)
  • Construction (753 people or 9.2%)

In combination, these three industries employed 2,869 people in total or 35.0% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Penrith City employed 13.2% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 10.0% in Retail Trade; and 12.0% in Construction.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Penrith and Penrith City were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (15.1% compared to 13.2%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (5.6% compared to 4.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in construction (9.2% compared to 12.0%)
