Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by children aged 0 to 4 years in the City of Parramatta in 2021 compared to the total population in the City of Parramatta shows that there was a larger proportion of people who spoke English only, and a smaller proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 39.4% of children aged 0 to 4 years spoke English only, and 54.3% of% spoke a non-English language, compared with 38.2% and 56.4% respectively for the total population in the City of Parramatta.

Other than English, the dominant language spoken at home by children aged 0 to 4 years in the City of Parramatta was Mandarin, with 13.1% of the population, or 2,108 people speaking this language at home.

The major differences between the languages spoken at home for children aged 0 to 4 years of the City of Parramatta and the total population in the City of Parramatta in 2021 were:
