Calare is bounded by the extent of the urban area in the north, the Mitchell Highway (Molong Road) and Woodward Street in the east, Park Road, Pinnacle Road, James Road, the railway line and the locality of Canobolas in the south, and the Cabonne Council area in the west.

Name origin

Calare is named after the Federal electorate covering Orange.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the 1830s, although population was minimal until the late 1800s. The most significant development occurred in the post-war years. The population generally increased from the early 1990s as new dwellings were added to the area.

Calare is a predominantly residential area within the township of Orange, with rural land in the western section.

Major features of the area include Duntryleague Golf Club, Wentworth Golf Club, Towac Park Racecourse, Max Stewart Park, Cutcliffe Park, Mulga Bill Playground, Riawena Oval, Wiare Reserve and two schools.
