Dominant groups

The size of the Southern District's labour force in 2021 was 7,537, of which 2,925 were employed part-time and 3,707 were full time workers.

Analysis of the employment status (as a percentage of the labour force) in the Southern District in 2021 compared to the City of Onkaparinga shows that there was a similar proportion in employment, as well as a similar proportion unemployed. Overall, 94.1% of the labour force was employed, and 5.9% unemployed, compared with 94.4% and 5.6% respectively for the City of Onkaparinga.

Analysis of the labour force participation rate of the population in the Southern District in 2021 shows that there was a lower proportion in the labour force (59.1%) compared with the City of Onkaparinga (60.4%).

Emerging groups

Between 2006 and 2021, the number of people employed in the Southern District showed an increase of 3,153, and the number unemployed showed an increase of 118. In the same period, the number of people in the labour force showed an increase of 3,270 or 76.6%.
