Dominant groups

Analysis of the household/family types in Northern Midlands in 2021 compared to Regional TAS shows that there was a higher proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a lower proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 24.0% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 9.9% were one-parent families, compared with 22.6% and 10.5% respectively for Regional TAS.

There were a lower proportion of lone person households and a higher proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 27.3% compared to 28.4% in Regional TAS while the proportion of couples without children was 31.6% compared to 29.5% in Regional TAS.

Emerging groups

The number of households in Northern Midlands increased by 459 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in family/household types in Northern Midlands between 2016 and 2021 were:

  • Couples without children (+213 households)
  • Lone person (+169 households)
