The number of motor vehicles among the overseas-born population may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as the Age Structure of that population, ability to drive and availability of other transport options (eg. public transport) in the area of residence.

Dominant groups
Analysis of the car ownership of people born in Brazil in the Northern Beaches Council in 2021 compared to Greater Sydney shows that 91.6% of people born in Brazil were in households that owned at least one car, while 7.4% did not, compared with 82.4% and 16.1% respectively in Greater Sydney.
Of those that owned at least one vehicle, there was a smaller proportion that owned just one car; a larger proportion owned two cars; and a larger proportion that owned three cars or more.
Overall, 43.5% of people born in Brazil were in households that owned one car; 35.6% owned two cars; and 12.5% owned three cars or more, compared with 45.2%; 27.3% and 10.0% respectively for Greater Sydney.

The largest changes in household car ownership for people born in Brazil in the Northern Beaches Council between 2016 and 2021 were:
