Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by children aged 0 to 4 years in the Northern Beaches Council in 2021 compared to the total population in the Northern Beaches Council shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who spoke English only, and a larger proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 78.5% of children aged 0 to 4 years spoke English only, and 18.1% of% spoke a non-English language, compared with 81.0% and 15.6% respectively for the total population in the Northern Beaches Council.

Other than English, the dominant language spoken at home by children aged 0 to 4 years in the Northern Beaches Council was Portuguese, with 2.2% of the population, or 316 people speaking this language at home.
