Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Stockton in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (287 people or 16.3%)
  • Construction (194 people or 11.0%)
  • Education and Training (174 people or 9.9%)

In combination, these three industries employed 655 people in total or 37.1% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, the City of Newcastle employed 20.6% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 7.8% in Construction; and 10.2% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Stockton and the City of Newcastle were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in construction (11.0% compared to 7.8%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in public administration and safety (8.8% compared to 6.4%)
