Dominant groups

Analysis of the need for assistance of males in the City of Newcastle compared to Regional NSW shows that there was a lower proportion of males who reported needing assistance with core activities.

Overall, 6.0% of the male population reported needing assistance with core activities, compared with 6.7% for Regional NSW.

The major differences in the male age groups reporting a need for assistance in the City of Newcastle and Regional NSW were:

  • A larger percentage of males aged 85 and over (48.1% compared to 39.6%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 80 to 84 (26.8% compared to 21.9%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 75 to 79 (19.2% compared to 14.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 5 to 9 (5.5% compared to 6.7%)

Emerging groups
