Dominant groups

Analysis of the household/family types in the Shire of Murray in 2021 compared to Peel Region shows that there was a higher proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a lower proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 26.1% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 10.5% were one-parent families, compared with 24.4% and 11.1% respectively for Peel Region.

There were a lower proportion of lone person households and a higher proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 23.0% compared to 26.2% in Peel Region while the proportion of couples without children was 31.7% compared to 30.9% in Peel Region.

Emerging groups

The number of households in Shire of Murray increased by 511 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in family/household types in the Shire of Murray between 2016 and 2021 were:

  • Lone person (+266 households)
  • Couples without children (+150 households)
