Dominant groups

Analysis of individual income levels in the Eastern District in 2021 compared to the Mount Barker District Council shows that there was a lower proportion of people earning a high income (those earning $2,000 per week or more) and a higher proportion of low income people (those earning less than $500 per week).

Overall, 8.2% of the population earned a high income, and 35.7% earned a low income, compared with 10.4% and 30.6% respectively for the Mount Barker District Council.

The major differences between the Eastern District's individual incomes and the Mount Barker District Council's individual incomes were:

  • A larger percentage of persons who earned Negative Income/ Nil income (9.4% compared to 6.8%)
  • A larger percentage of persons who earned $300 - $399 (9.4% compared to 7.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons who earned $2,000 - $2,999 (5.4% compared to 7.2%)
