In the District Council of Mount Barker, 5.3% of renting households were paying $450 or more per week in rent in 2016.

Rental payments can be a better measure of the cost of housing in the District Council of Mount Barker than mortgage repayments because they are not contingent on length of occupancy or equity in the dwelling.

Analysis of the weekly housing rental payments of households in the District Council of Mount Barker compared to Greater Adelaide shows that there was a smaller proportion of households paying high rental payments ($450 per week or more), as well as a smaller proportion of households with low rental payments (less than $250 per week).

Overall, 5.3% of households were paying high rental payments, and 24.9% were paying low payments, compared with 7.4% and 33.6% respectively in Greater Adelaide.

The major differences between the housing rental payments of the District Council of Mount Barker and Greater Adelaide were:
